WHITE, CLARENCE M.

Clarence M. White, age 93, of Roanoke, died Thursday, April 19, 1991, in a Roanoke Hospital. He was born in Winamac, Ind., on September 26, 1897. He moved to Roanoke as a young man and was first employed by the Norfolk & Western Railway. He worked for 47 years for Martha Washington Candies on Jefferson St., later known as Old Dominion Candies of Roanoke and Salem. After his retirement he worked at Oakey's North Chapel for 13 years. Mr. White dedicated his life to being a good Christian and father. He was an active member of the church throughout his life and charter member of the Williamson Road Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his sister, Sylvia Bowman of Martinsville; a brother, Earl White of Roanoke. Survivers include two sons and daughters-in-law, Colonel Harold R. and Elaine White of Austin, Texas; Dr. David L. and Ruth White of Matthews, Va.; one sister, Hazel Akers of Roanoke; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Oakey's North Chapel 11:30 a.m. Monday, April 22, with the Pastor Harold S. Moyer officiating. Interment will be in Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens. The family suggests memorials be made to Williamson Road Church of the Brethren, 3110 Pioneer Rd. N.W., Roanoke, Va. 24012. Friends may call Oakey's North Chapel where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 4:00 and 7:00 to 9:00 p.m., Sunday.
