VIRGINIA'S BOONE SETS TRIPLE JUMP RECORD

The University of Virginia's Dana Boone won the triple jump in Saturday's Atlantic Coast Conference Track and Field Championships, setting a meet record with a jump of 42 feet, 5 1/2 inches.

Boone, who set a meet record in the long jump on Friday, won the triple jump with a distance of 42-6, but that effort was wind-aided and could not be treated as record-breaking.

Other Cavaliers who finished first included Stephen Dunphy, who won six of the ten decathlon events, placing first with 7,499 points; Cornell Grayson, who won the triple jump; and Kelly Bodiford, who placed first in the shot put.

Clemson was both the men's and women's champion. Virginia placed fourth in men's competition, and third in women's. - Staff report
