DEFENSE HELPS W&L NIP SHO'MEN

Washington and Lee held Washington College scoreless for a 39-minute, 23-second span and the Generals edged the Sho'men 10-9 in a battle of nationally ranked Division III men's lacrosse teams Saturday.

W&L (8-3), ranked sixth, held ninth-ranked Washington (3-6) scoreless from 13:02 of the first quarter to 6:37 of the third, and that wound up being the difference.

Goalie Tom Costello stopped Greg Rupert with eight seconds left to preserve the Generals' victory.

It was W&L's first win over Washington College since 1984, a span of seven games.
