SADDAM REMAINS, POOR AND LOWLY DIE

OUR CAVALIER "freedom fighter," Mr. Bush, is now doing what he seemingly does best: sky-jetting from one point of political exposure, espousing his newly coined epithet, a New World Order.

Surely, by now he must understand what an immense burden is placed on the already drained budget by constantly having a presidential aircraft and its crew in the air; and think of the oil he fought so hard for being used unwisely.

I was against deployment of our troops to save one decadent emirate from another power-crazed, decadent billionaire dictator. Daily, viewing the carnage scattered over the rugged terrain where the disenfranchised starve, and die fighting each other for food while much of the environment is threatened forever by the burning oil wells, I wonder where is the "great victory" Mr. Bush proudly proclaims.

The cowardly emir returned, weeks later, when he deemed it safe. Bad man Saddam, Mr. Bush's main objective, remains, while the poor and lowly die. This letter is not to demean our valiant troops or their tributes for jobs well-done. Hopefully, never again will they be sent to fight for or against a culture, or a mentality, we as Westerners shall never fully understand. PATRICIA E. NEAL COVINGTON
