STANTON, JACK E.

Jake Emlyn Stanton, age 72, of 473 Wickham Road, Beckley, died January 9 in a Beckley Hospital following a short illness. He was born November 4, 1919 in War, W.Va., the son of the late David Emlyn and Nannie Ruth Sifford Stanton. He was a graduate of St. Paul High School, St. Paul, Va. where he lettered in football. He was a World War II veteran serving in the U.S. Marine Corps with the rank of Sgt. He was of the Methodist faith. He was a 44 year resident of Beckley, W.Va. coming from Va. In the Beckley area he had been active in several civic organizations. He is a retired salesman for Dearing Brothers and John Dearing Sales for over 25 years. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Alice Virginia "Maggie" Payne Stanton, at home; two sons, W. David and his wife, Jo Ann Stanton of Beckley, W.Va.; J. Jeffrey and his wife, Alice Stanton of Lugott, S.C.; four grandchildren; two brothers, Morgan T. Stanton of Houston, Texas; Dr. William Pat Stanton of Tazewell, Va.; two sisters, Shirley E. Stanton and Mescal Lytton, both of St. Paul, Va. The funeral will be Sunday at 2:00 p.m. at the Melton Morturary Chapel at 1200 Harper Road, Beckley, W. Va. with David Robinson officiating. Burial will be in the Blue Ridge Memorial Gardens at Prosperity, W.Va. Friends may call Saturday from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.
