AXING OF `CAROL BURNETT SHOW' A SURPRISE

One of the most surprising cancellations of the 1991-92 broadcast season was the revamped "The Carol Burnett Show" on CBS, which was yanked early in its run.

CBS also put on ice "The Trials of Rosie O'Neill," starring Sharon Gless and Ed Asner, after repeated shuffling on the network's schedule.

Also in hiatus is "The Royal Family," which is being reworked following the death of comedian Redd Foxx and the subsequent casting of Jackee.

Besides "The Adventures of Mark and Brian," NBC axed the comeback of James Garner in "Man of the People," shipped off to hiatus "Flesh 'n' Blood" and is retooling "Real Life With Jane Pauley" and "Expose."

ABC got rid of "Good & Evil," the show starring Teri Garr and created by Susan Harris ("The Golden Girls"), "MacGyver," "Sibs" and "The Young Riders."
