GUILFORD TOPS W&L WITH SURGE 76-67

Paul Ferrell scored 16 of his 18 points in the second half Saturday night to rally Guilford's Quakers to a 76-67 Old Dominion Athletic Conference basketball victory over Washington and Lee.

Ferrell, who had a game-high seven assists, hit all four of his field-goal attempts in the second half and all eight free throws. He scored all of Guilford's points in a 10-4 run that gave the Quakers a 67-59 lead with 1:58 left.

Guilford (6-4 overall, 2-2 ODAC) also got 20 points from Brad McCorkle and 12 from Michael Wright, who hit eight of nine free throws.

Robert Miggins scored 14 with 10 rebounds to lead the Generals (3-8, 0-5). Washington and Lee also got 12 points from Bryan Watkins and 10 each from Paul Baker and John Rogers. Brian Brading was 3-for-3 on 3-point attempts and finished with nine points.

The Generals hit only seven of 23 3-point attempts and 12 of 25 free throws.

Guilford shot 56 percent on field-goal attempts (24-for-43) and 87 percent on free throws (26-for-30), including 17-of-19 in the second half. \
