CAVE SPRING HOLDS OFF BOTETOURT

Jason Lavinder hit two crucial 3-pointers in the final period and Kerry Whitt hit six of seven free throws as Cave Spring held off Lord Botetourt 69-66 in a non-district boys' basketball game on Saturday.

The Knights (6-3) battled back from a 35-30 halftime deficit to lead 50-43 after three quarters.

Bobby Prince led all scorers with 23 points, but it was not enough for the Cavaliers. Craig Layman added 15 for Lord Botetourt.

Baker Doughty led Cave Spring with 16 points followed by Whitt's 14. Lavinder, who hit three 3-pointers, and Chris Matheny each added 13. \
