OBIT LEE, V.

LEE, VIRGINIA Y.

Mrs. Virginia Dare Young Lee of Roanoke passed away Saturday night, January 11, at Friendship Manor Nursing Home after a lengthy illness. She was the daughter of the late Robert and Lula B. Young. She touched the lives of many people in her years of public service to the community and as Gainsboro Branch Librarian for 43 1/2 years. She was a dedicated member of First Baptist Church for over a half century. A product of the Roanoke City Schools and a graduate of Hampton University, Mrs. Lee did further study at Virginia State University and Roanoke College. She worked in the Hampton University Library, reorganized the library at Lemoyne Junior College, and taught in the Roanoke City School System. She served on many community service boards. She wrote and produced many pageants. One of her concerns and hobbies was to build and assemble a collection of Afro-American history books. After her retirement and with the help and cooperation of her successors, Mrs. Lee dedicated an outstanding Afro-American collection to the Gainsboro Branch of the Roanoke City Library System. She leaves to cherish her memory her family, Mrs. Virginia C. Reeves and Mr. Curtis C. Reeves Sr., both of Salem; Father James E. Goode, San Francisco, Calif.; Dr. and Mrs. Curtis C. Reeves Jr., Charlotte, N.C.; Mrs. Virginia Young Schexnider and Dr. Alvin J. Schexnider, Richmond, Va. Also surviving are cousins, Mrs. Viola Powell Woods, Mrs. Lillie Young Reeves, and other cousins, several most devoted friends, and other community and church friends. Arrangements by Hamlar-Curtis Funeral Home.
