SCIENCE MUSEUM HAS NEW DIRECTOR

The search for an executive director is over for the Science Museum of Western Virginia.

James C. Sears returned to his hometown with his wife, learned of the position vacated in August by Chris Pendleton and began work on Wednesday.

"I felt like [the museum] was a broad-based educational program for the entire western part of Virginia," Sears said of his decision to consider the position. "The comprehensiveness of the program is what attracted me to the museum."

Melinda Milan has led the museum as interim executive director since Pendleton's resignation.

"I wanted to try to make a contribution to Roanoke for these last 20 years or so I have left in my formal career," Sears said of his decision to return home. - WENDI GIBSON
