CHURCH WOMEN UNITED will hear the Rev. Glenna Parrish of Lynchburg at its annual meeting Friday at High Street Baptist Church, 2302 Florida Ave. N.W. Parrish, a pastoral counselor for Disciples of Christ churches, will review the national Church Women United group's 50th anniversary celebration in St. Louis. Registration begins at 10 a.m."COLUMBUS AS CATHOLIC EDUCATOR" is the theme of a liturgy of thanksgiving service Sunday at 1:30 p.m. in the Roanoke Catholic High School gymnasium, 621 N. Jefferson St. The service marks the beginning of observances of the 500th anniversary of the discovery of America by Columbus, who sought to bring Christianity to pagans of the unknown world.
RELIGION AND RACE CONVERSATIONS, an ecumenical group bringing church people of different races together, will meet Monday at 7:15 p.m. at the United Methodist Home to participate in Black History Month observances.
CHRISTIAN ENDEAVOR UNION MEMBERS in the Roanoke Valley are observing the 110th anniversary of the founding of the evangelical Christian organization. A potluck dinner is scheduled Feb. 1 at 6:30 p.m. at Westminster Presbyterian Church in America on Peters Creek Road Northwest.
HEBREW CLASSES for adults or teens of any faith will be offered on Tuesday nights from Feb. 11 through May 26 at Beth Israel Synagogue, 920 Franklin Road S.W. Rabbi Jerome Fox will teach phonetic Hebrew reading. The only fee is for books and materials. To register, call 343-0289. Classes will meet from 6:30 to 7:30.
AN ECUMENICAL PRAYER GROUP, established about six months ago at Madonna House retreat center in Roanoke, is still accepting members. The group meet the fourth Friday night at 7:30. SISTER ANNA MARIE CANARY, a staff member of Our Lady of Nazareth Catholic Church and active in ecumenical Roanoke Valley projects, is participating in a continuing education and spiritual renewal program at Notre Dame University in Indiana. The program continues through May and will prepare the nun for further service with her order, the Sisters of Charity of Nazareth.
A HOSANNA GOSPEL EXPOSE musical program by members of 15 Roanoke Valley church choirs will take place Feb. 8 at 8 p.m. at the Patrick Henry Hotel Grand Ballroom. Tickets for the semi-formal event cost $8 and may be bought at the door. Hosanna Chapter 517 of the Order of Eastern Star is sponsoring the event.
Leaders of the Hosanna Chapter will charter a new group Feb. 9. For information about membership and goals, call 342-2541.
