GRANDFATHER PLEADS GUILTY TO RAPING CHILD
A 69-year-old man pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court Friday to raping his 9-year-old granddaughter in June 1990.
Two other indictments against the Elliston man for indecent liberties were not prosecuted by Commonwealth's Attorney Phil Keith.
In a summary of the evidence, Keith told Judge Kenneth Devore that the grandfather was baby-sitting the girl when he took her to a bedroom, removed her clothes and forced her to have intercourse.
The girl reported the rape in September 1991 and the man admitted it had occurred, Keith said. The man said the child "began to `mess with him' " and had touched his penis, according to the prosecutor.
Devore withheld sentencing, but had the man jailed until a presentence report is returned in April.
