VIRGINIA JAYCEES NAME OUTSTANDING YOUNG PEOPLE

Bill McDonald of Blacksburg has been named the Outstanding Young Farmer of 1992.

McDonald, a Virginia Tech graduate who runs a farm that has been in his family since 1763, was honored by the Virginia Jaycees, a leadership training organization for young people.

The Jaycees also honored eight men and women as part of its 50th Outstanding Young Virginians awards - including Sen. Brandon Bell of Roanoke and Gary W. Collins of Martinsville.

Bell served as one of Hewlett Packard's youngest district managers and as chairman of Roanoke County's Regional Chamber of Commerce before he was elected last year to the state Senate.

Collins, first vice president of investments for J.C. Bradford & Co., has been involved in civic groups and fund raising, and helped start the first "Adopt-a-Highway" project in Henry County.
