LIBRARIES OFFER RESEARCH JACKPOT

The public libraries in the Roanoke Valley are holding a lottery for local businesses that need research in specialized commercial subjects.

To enter, a company can leave a business card at any public library in the Roanoke Valley or fax an entry to the Roanoke County Library reference department at 989-3129. Three companies will be chosen in a drawing on April 10.

Winners will receive research on a specific business topic. The librarians doing the research will print a reference list and provide photocopies of up to three articles from each of three data banks.

The data banks available are:

A.B.I. Inform, which indexes more than 800 journals of business and management, at the Roanoke College library.

Business Index/Infotrac, a database of 800 business, management and trade journals along with 400 popular and news magazines, at the Roanoke Public Library.

NewsBank, a reference service with access to articles from newspapers in more than 450 cities, including Roanoke, Richmond, Norfolk, Newport News and Bristol in Virginia. It's at the Roanoke County and Salem libraries.

Newspaper Abstract, a computerized index to several major newspapers including The New York Times and Wall Street Journal, at Roanoke College.
