DUKE'S HILL OUT; HURLEY BACK

Duke lost one guard and regained another Wednesday.

Grant Hill, a 6-foot-8 sophomore who had taken on an iron-man role in the past three weeks, suffered an ankle sprain during Tuesday practice.

Wednesday morning, team doctor Frank Bassett said Hill, third on the team in scoring at 15 points per game and second in rebounding at 5.7, is expected to miss two to four weeks.

The regular-season ends on March 8 and the ACC Tournament is March 12-15.

Hill was injured during a spirited scrimmage, one of several vigorous drills held by coach Mike Krzyzewski since the loss to Wake Forest on Sunday.

Going for a rebound, Christian Laettner hurled Cherokee Parks aside. Parks sprawled and landed on Hill's ankle. Hill was taken to Duke hospital and X-rayed Tuesday night. There are no broken bones.

Meanwhile, point guard Bobby Hurley suited up and played against Virginia, three weeks after breaking his right foot against North Carolina. Hill had replaced Hurley at the point in the past five games.

Hurley had X-rays Wednesday and was given clearance by Bassett.
