VINTON POLICE ALWAYS POLITE, COURTEOUS

I HAD TO respond to the letter Dec. 24 ("Vinton justice blind and deaf too"). Having lived in Vinton 25 years and dealing with them on several occasions, I have always found Vinton police polite, courteous and helpful as well as professional.

Once when I was in a minor accident, I witnessed a young lady harassing the officer in a rude tone. He replied: "I don't know where you have dealt with the law before, but we don't handle things that way in Vinton."

Most of us get angry when given a ticket, etc. We should stop and think: This officer puts his life on the line every day. The next time we meet, I may have called him to defend me or my family.

Courts all across the country are crowded and overloaded with citizens who have broken the law in some form. Vinton isn't any different. MARTHA HARRIS VINTON
