TIRED OF GRIPES ABOUT THE OLYMPICS

I AM SICK and tired of people whining and complaining about the 1992 Winter Olympics. If the games were not exciting enough and the United States didn't win enough medals, they could change the channel!

These athletes, who represent their countries, spend the better parts of their lives training and competing - for what? Outrageous salaries and endorsements? No, they competed for their families, their friends, their countries, for you. And the only thanks they get are complaints from people and columnists like Kevin Cowherd (Commentary page, Feb. 14) as well as complaints of too few medals.

Our athletes competed in The Olympics! With the greatest athletes in the world. The fact that these men and women are on the Olympic team is a great honor in itself.

So stop complaining and think of the sacrifices and time these great, true athletes made to represent their country for the possibility of a brief moment of glory. Those bored with the Olympic games, sitting there on your lazy backside cramming chips down your throats, could have changed the channel to some brainless program. It would suit you better.
