NO. 6 UVA ROUTS W&L IN LACROSSE

Virginia scored seven unanswered goals while holding Washington and Lee scoreless for a span of more than 30 minutes as the Cavaliers began their men's lacrosse season by roughing up the Generals 14-4 on Saturday.

Kevin Pehlke had three goals and three assists for UVa, ranked sixth in the Division I preseason coaches' poll.

Virginia took a 3-1 lead in the first quarter. After Drew Anton scored his second goal to pull Washington and Lee (1-1) to 3-2 early in the second quarter, Virginia surged for seven straight goals, including a 5-0 run in the third quarter.

Eric Carruthers, Ray Kamrath and Tony Nugent each scored two goals for the Cavaliers. Perry Frazer and Rob Falk added a goal and three assists each.
