VMI'S PELOQUIN VAULTS TO CONFERENCE RECORD

Appalachian State took first place and VMI's Keith Peloquin set a pole vault record Saturday in the Southern Conference Indoor Track and Field Meet at East Tennessee State.

The Mountaineers racked up 149 points to win the two-day meet for the seventh time in the past nine years. ETSU was second with 96, followed by VMI (92), Marshall (77), Western Carolina (58), The Citadel (16), Davidson (7) and Tennessee-Chattanooga (0).

Peloquin set a conference record with a vault of 15 feet, 10 inches, breaking the 16-year-old mark of 15-9 1/2, set by Dan Tyson of Furman.

VMI's David Presnell won the 800-meter run and K.C. Bratton took second in the 55 and 200.
