HIGHLANDERS HOLD OFF BUCKNELL IN BASEBALL

Tom Curran went 3-for-5 with three runs scored and two stolen bases Saturday to help Radford start the baseball season with a 14-9 victory over Bucknell at Dedmon Center Park.

The Highlanders took the lead for good with six unearned runs in the third inning, capitalizing on one of seven Bucknell errors. After a dropped fly ball and three run-scoring singles, Donnie Just delivered a two-out, two-run single to give Radford a 7-4 edge.

The Bison pulled to 9-7, but the Highlanders answered with five runs in the bottom of the fifth. Two more errors and a two-run single by Travis Hawkins helped Radford's cause in the inning.

The teams will play a doubleheader today. - Staff report
