HOT-HITTING HOKIES RIP HOWARD

Virginia Tech made a shambles of the Howard pitching staff, pounding 23 hits, including four home runs, in a 20-4 college baseball victory Saturday at English Field.

Tech (8-0-1) scored three runs in the first inning, two on a Les Jennette double, then rolled up nine more runs in the third.

Right fielder J.R. Hawkins smashed a two-run home run in that outburst, and Jennette, Bryan King and Will Hamilton also had homers in the game.

Jennette finished 3-for-3 with two doubles, a homer and four runs batted in. Fourteen Hokies contributed hits in backing senior Robby Douglas, who pitched eight innings, striking out five and walking three. - Staff report
