BLACKSBURG PUTS 2 ON REGION IV TEAM

Virginia High and Blacksburg, which met in the Region IV boys' basketball championship game, dominated the all-region team announced Saturday night.

Guard Robbie Howard of region champion Virginia High was voted player of the year, and the Bearcats' first-year coach Mike Cartolaro was coach of the year in balloting by the region's coaches.

Joining Howard on the all-region first-team were teammate Mike Dansen, Darren Morton and Jon Maher from Blacksburg, and Eric McComas of Richlands.

Eddie Hungate of Marion and Jason Stockner of Carroll County were selected to the region's second team. Marion's Eddie Boothe, Radford's Duane Pierson and Christiansburg's Steve Gregory received honorable mentions.
