HOKIES STAY UNBEATEN IN BASEBALL

Virginia Tech, off to its best start under baseball coach Chuck Hartman, defeated Detroit-Mercy 12-4 on Sunday in the Hall of Fame round-robin tournament at Georgia Southern.

Les Jennette hit a three-run home run in the seventh inning to put Tech ahead 5-2. Dee Dalton, a freshman from Cave Spring High School, hit a key pinch-hit, RBI double in the six-run eighth inning.

Brad Clontz (3-0) of Patrick County pitched eight innings, struck out 11 and walked three.

Tech (9-0-1) is in its 14th season under Hartman. - Staff report
