FERRUM SWEEPS A PAIR FROM RUTGERS-NEWARK

Jerold Smith smacked two home runs and knocked in nine runners Sunday as Ferrum swept a college baseball doubleheader from Rutgers-Newark 10-5 and 7-3.

Smith had a solo homer and a three-run blast in the first game, and the Panthers (9-0) scored seven runs in the last two innings.

In the second game, Chad Maddox went 2-for-4 with three runs batted in to lead Ferrum. Starting pitcher Scott David (3-0) struck out seven and walked three.
