BUSH NAMES EXECUTIVE NEW NASA CHIEF

Daniel S. Goldin, an aerospace executive known for building tough, dependable space hardware, was named Wednesday by President Bush to head NASA. He replaces Richard Truly, a former astronaut who resigned under pressure.

Bush described Goldin, vice president and general manager of TRW's Space and Technology Group, as "a man of extraordinary energy and vitality." Space industry officials said it was not generally known that Goldin was being considered for the job.
