LIVER TRANSPLANT RECIPIENT IS OUT OF INTENSIVE CARE

Leona Elliott, who received a liver transplant Saturday, is out of intensive care at the Medical College of Virginia and in her own room in the transplant clinic, her husband, Stan, said Wednesday.

Elliott, of Shawsville, was in stable condition Wednesday, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

Stan Elliott said that his wife was able to call him Tuesday evening at a motel he's staying in.

"I almost fainted" when he heard her voice, he said.

He is continuing to raise funds to pay for the transplant, which was partly paid for with donations.

But the bill continues to grow because of daily medication his wife needs, he said.

His daughter gave him money for the motel expenses, Stan Elliott said.

Donations may be sent to the "Leona Elliott Liver Transplant Fund," in care of Phyllis Echols, branch manager, First National Bank of Christiansburg at the New River Valley Mall.

The money will be sent to the Medical College of Virginia.

Cards and donations may be sent to the family in care of the Leona Elliott Liver Transplant Fund, 111 Corbin Street, Shawsville, Va. 24162, or call (703) 268-5960.
