SHOW DESIGNED TO APPEAL TO ENTIRE FAMILY

When people leave the American Women's Show, Danny Taylor says he hopes they will have spent a couple of hours being entertained and educated, having fun and finding out what's new.

Taylor, who puts the show together, promises something for everyone in a show he bills as "The Complete Show for the '90s."

The annual event opens with a ribbon cutting at noon on Friday, March 13. Mayor Noel C. Taylor, accompanied by Miss Virginia Sheri Huffman, and Victoria Bond, conductor of the Roanoke Symphony Orchestra, will do the honors. From then, until it closes at 6 p.m. on Sunday, the show will feature a wide array of displays, seminars and demonstrations.

While the primary target is the American woman, Taylor said the show has been designed to appeal to the entire family. In fact, it is almost like many shows in one.

Women, homeowners and do-it-yourselfers can head for the displays of items for the home, such as window treatments, carpeting and cabinets. Families planning their summer vacations can talk to representatives from local attractions - Natural Bridge, Peaks of Otter, Williamsburg and Busch Gardens, to name a few, And then they can look at the large display of recreational vehicles as a way to get there.

The indoor and outdoor RV display, Taylor said, "is like an RV show in itself."

People looking for a new car might find it at Valley Motorsport's display. And those who want to take care of their old cars can attend the Firestone Car Care Clinics.

There also is a variety of fashions, cosmetics (including demonstrations and makeovers) and jewelry (including unique pieces, hand-made by local craftspeople). There is even a complete bridal show.

The Lewis-Gale Hospital Health Pavilion, covering 17 booths, will feature useful information about health and women's issues, ranging from cardiac care to AIDS, stress reduction to infertility.

The show is open noon to 9 p.m., March 13 and 14, and noon to 6 p.m. on March 15. Tickets are $3.50 for adults and free for children 12 and under. For groups of 12 or more, tickets are $2 each.
