DETECT GARBAGE BY SIGHT AND SMELL

YOUR RECENT editorial bashing President Bush was a striking example of liberal views of the press in general and your newspaper in particular.

Though I am a Republican and a conservative, I do not approve of everything President Bush does or says. One thing I did applaud, and there was loud cheering in our office, was when Bush fired that arrogant head of the National Endowment for the Arts. I am still angry that it wasn't done months and months ago.

Where is your objectivity? Are you all blind? Is your mind in the gutter?

I am not a right-wing demagogue, but I can recognize garbage when I see and smell it. Why should our tax dollars be spent on trash that no one in his right mind would purchase?

I doubt you could find very many informed people who would approve the grants made by the NEA that funded things so revolting that you can't even print them in a paper as liberal as the Roanoke Times & World-News. In these fiscal times, it's one agency we can do without.

There is a difference between liberty and license. Liberty has a partner, and that partner is responsibility.

Please, Mr. Editor, get hold of some of that responsibility. JOHN C. LEDOUX BLACKSBURG
