CHAPPELL, MARION B.

LEXINGTON - Marion Broege Chappell, age 78, died Friday, March 13, 1992, at her home. Mrs. Chappell was born September 23, 1913, in Enfield, Conn., a daughter of the late Frederick W. and Lillian Smyth Broege. Following her graduation from Bay Path Insitute of Springfield, Mass., she taught in the Enfield School System until her marriage to Gordon Chappell. She and her husband moved to Lexington in 1958 where she was a member of the State Health Department staff for many years. Mrs. Chappell was a member of the Board of Directors for the Friends of the Rockbridge Regional Library, and served as Coordinator of Volunteers from 1982 until the time of her death. She was a member of the Good Shepherd Evangelical Lutheran Church where she served as a member of the Church Council for six years and also held offices of Secretary, Treasurer, Vice President and President of the Lutheran Church Women. An active member of the community, Mrs. Chappell served on the Board of Directors of the Rockbridge Area Relief Association, as an officer in the Business and Professional Women's Club, the Lexington Women's Club, the Rockbridge Homemaker's Extension Tri-Community Club, and was an active member and volunteer worker for the local chapter of the American Red Cross. Surviving are one daughter, Penni Chappell, West Brook, Dallas, Texas; one son, Gordon F. Chappell, Williamsburg; two grandchildren; two brothers, Royal J. Broege, West Hartford, Conn.; Frederick L. Broege, Enfield, Conn. Memorial services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Monday, March 16, 1992, at the Harrison Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Tracie Bartholomew officiating. Burial will follow in the Stonewall Jackson Cemetery. The family suggests memorial donations to the Rockbridge Area Hospice, Post Office Box 948, Lexington, Va. The family will receive friends from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Sunday at the Harrison Funeral Home, Lexington.
