RICH OR POOR, IT'S MONEY LOST

I FELT THE NEED to respond to the person who wrote to express his feelings about the elderly gentleman's retirement funds ("Investment loss not so stunning," letter, March 4). Did he consider the hard work that the retired person probably had to maintain all his life?

This, to me, is the typical attitude of the "going nowhere" American. When will these people wake up and realize that this is America? With a little initiative, and a lot of hard work and drive, anything is possible. Eight thousand dollars lost is $8,000 lost, whether it is a rich man's money or a poor man's only asset. SUE N.
