BLACK DANCE GROUP PLANS FRIDAY DEBUT

Virginia Tech's newly formed black dance company will have its first formal performance Friday night.

Ujima Dance Theatre will perform during the first annual Miss Egyptian Goddess Pageant, sponsored by Alpha Phi Alpha fraternity at Wesley Foundation at 7 p.m.

Admission is $3. No tennis shoes or jeans may be worn.

The fraternity also is sponsoring its 19th annual Black and Gold Affair on Saturday. This year's theme for the dance is "Elegant Evening on the Nile." It begins at 9:06 p.m. - the "06" refers to 1906, the year the fraternity was founded - an continues until 1:06 a.m. in the Pavilion at Best Western Red Lion Inn. Tickets are $13 per person or $25 per couple; dress is semi-formal.

Money raised from both events will go to the Alpha Phi Alpha Scholarship Fund.
