PGA AVERTS OFFICIALS' STRIKE

An agreement was reached between the union representing field staff officials and the PGA Tour on Wednesday night, the eve of the Players Championship.

"All issues have been resolved," PGA Tour deputy commissioner Tim Finchem said.

The officials, who conduct day-to-day operation of tour events, had threatened to strike at midnight Wednesday unless their demands for an improved economic package were met.

Neither the PGA Tour nor Richie Phillips, the negotiator for the union, would release details of the agreement. - Associated Press
