TECH HOLDS CLINIC FOR COACHES

About 175 high school and junior high school coaches are expected to attend the annual Virginia Tech Football Coaches Clinic this weekend.

The clinic begins with registration at Cassell Coliseum from 8 to 9 Friday morning. Tech head coach Frank Beamer will make opening remarks.

On Friday, there will be a golf outing and a steak cookout. On Saturday, coaches are invited to a barbecue lunch followed by Tech's spring football scrimmage in Lane Stadium. Seven high school coaches will lecture, along with Tech assistant coach Billy Hite, offensive coordinator Steve Marshall and defensive coordinator Mike Clark.

The visiting coaches are Larry Smith of Halifax County; Vic Williams of Thomas Dale High; Bob Christmas of Jefferson Forest; Doug Duvall of Wilde Lake High in Columbia, Md.; Joe May of Nottoway High; Tim Coleman of Spotsylvania High; and Billy Shields of Bishop Verot High in Fort Myers, Fla. - Staff report
