NEED FEDERAL LAW TO AID CHILD SUPPORT

THERE IS dire need for a federal law to implement state laws to secure child support for all children abandoned by their fathers. Mothers rarely abandon their offspring.

Two proposals pending in Congress - H.R. 1241 and S. 1002 - should be debated and result in the passage of a just law.

There are 50 state laws controlling child-support offenders. The dad just leaves the state he was convicted in and escapes all responsibility. Then the mom has to file a new lawsuit in the new state, if the money is available.

Do lawyers have anything to do with the fact that our federal government has done nothing to right this criminal wrong? Multiply 50 states times 50,000 offenders and get 2.5 million lawbreakers: my fair estimate. CHARLES E. THORNTON ROANOKE
