PROGRAM MERGES TALENTS OF ARTISTS AND MUSICIANS

Program merges talents of artists and musicians

Musical Color, a Family Day program linking the experiences of music and artmaking, is set for April 11 at the Roanoke Museum of Fine Arts. The program will explore how creativity in both forms can be inspired by sounds and visual imagery.

Taking part in the program will be the Kandinsky Trio, Roanoke College's chamber music trio in residence, and artists Debbie Harris and Sindi Jones.

Musical Color is recommended for ages 9-12. The program is free, but pre-registration is required. To register or obtain additional information, call 342-5760.

Author Nicky Marone to hold book signing

Nicky Marone will be at Books Strings & Things in Roanoke April 7 to sign copies of her books.

Marone is author of `How To Father a Successful Daughter" and "women and Risk."

She will be at the store on Roanoke's City Market from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Transportation museum trying to raise $112,000

The Virginia Museum of Transportation has begun its annual fund drive.

Its goal during the next six weeks is to raise $112,000, the amount it lost when appropriation from the state was cut.

The museum will hold special activities for groups and organizations, such as the School Children's Steam Excursion on April 28.

Donations may be sent to the museum at 303 Norfolk Ave., Roanoke, Va. 24016.

Entries will be accepted beginning on April 15 for Photo-Expo, the annual photography competition and exhibition sponsored by the Piedmont Arts Association of Martinsville.

This year, the event is being combined with the Blue Ridge Regional Library's Images of Martinsville and Henry County photo contest.

All non-licensed photographers living in Virginia or North Carolina are eligible to submit entries. Those selected for the show will be exhibited at Piedmont Arts Association May 1-28, and selected pieces will be displayed at the library during the month of June.

Thomas Daniels, a professional photographer from Richmond, will be judge.
