KEEP RELIGIOUS BELIEFS OUT OF SCHOOL

I HAVE read several letters recently dealing with morals and prayer in school. Considering the fact that I have lived in this area my entire life, you would think I would be numb to the people writing and believing that prayer in school will save our society.

First, teaching of morals is the primary responsibility of parents.

Second, religion, specifically Christianity (yes, that is not the only surviving system of beliefs), should remain at home. This is called separation of church and state, another thing our country was founded on.

If prayer is what you believe to be the savior of our immoral society, have your children pray before they go to school and/or after they return. Do not impose your beliefs on others. If you believe Christian teachings should be a part of your child's schooling, then send them to a private school for this curriculum. JENNIFER NOLEN ROANOKE
