SHULER KIZER, 78, FORMER BUENA VISTA MAYOR, DIES

Shuler A. Kizer, 78, a former mayor of Buena Vista, died Saturday at the University of Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville.

A native of Lynchburg, Kizer earned his law degree from the University of Virginia and served as an assistant commonwealth's attorney in Lynchburg from 1937 until 1942.

He served as a lieutenant in the Navy during World War II.

Kizer moved his law practive to Buena Vista in 1951 and became commonwealth's attorney in that city. He served as mayor of Buena Vista in the 1970s.

Survivors include his wife, Gladys Fitzgerald Kizer; two children, Kitty Irvine of Buena Vista and Barksdale Kizer of Nazareth, Pa.; a sister, Mrs. James Rosenberger, Lynchburg; a brother, Charles W. Kizer, Richmond.

The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's United Methodist Church, with burial in Green Hill Cemetery. Lomax Funeral Home is handling arrangements.

The family requested that memorials be made to the church.
