TECH WRESTLER NINTH IN NCAA TOURNEY

Virginia Tech heavyweight Josh Feldman finished ninth in the NCAA Wrestling Tournament. He lost to Rulon Gardner of Nebraska 15-3 late Friday night at Iowa State University in Ames, Iowa.

Feldman ended the year with a 27-7 record and was 2-2 in this tournament. He is the first Hokie to have a top-10 finish in the NCAA Tournament since Brandon Glover placed third at 130 pounds in 1959. Feldman has one year of eligibility remaining.

\ Two Roanoke College athletes set school records during the 20-school Washington and Lee Track and Field Invitational in Lexington. Patricia Alonso won the 10,000-meter run in 40 minutes, 57 seconds, and Kera Schneiter made an 81-foot, 5-inch javelin toss.

Williams College won the men's meet. Mary Washington won the women's title and W&L finished fifth.

\ Virginia Tech's Heidi Allen won the 10,000-meter run in 35 minutes, 59.1 seconds at the Wake Forest Relays in Winston-Salem, N.C. Tech coach Steve Taylor won the 10,000-meter men's race in 29:48.1, 13 seconds ahead of Tech's Travis Walter. Dave Hannett won the decathlon with 5,986 points.
