PEROT'S FREE, PARKING'S NOT

Doors will open at 3 p.m. today for Ross Perot's United We Stand America rally at the Roanoke Civic Center.

The Texas billionaire and former presidential candidate is scheduled to speak at 5 p.m. Admission is free.

Perot's Roanoke appearance is part of a six-stop swing through South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia that began Friday night in Spartanburg, S.C.

The purpose of the Perot rally is to recruit members to the United We Stand America organization. The group was formed by Perot and his supporters following his unsuccessful independent bid for president last fall.

Entertainment, including live music, is planned before Perot's appearance, according to Daniel Bigger of Roanoke, the group's interim 6th district coordinator.

In addition to Perot, speakers include Bigger, Sue Harris Joyce of Charlottesville and Archie McBroom of Bristol. Joyce and McBroom are 7th and 9th congressional district interim coordinators.

Perot will be introduced by Tom Overrocker of Richmond, the organization's state coordinator.

For those wanting to park at the civic center, Roanoke charges a $1 fee.
