WALLACE, LIGHT ON 2ND-TEAM ALL-GROUP A

Jason Light of Floyd County and Van Wallace of Covington made The Associated Press' 1992-93 All-Group A basketball second team, released Tuesday.

Light, a junior center, averaged 21.1 points in the regular season and helped the Buffaloes advance to the Group A state tournament quarterfinals. Wallace, a senior guard, led the Pioneer District in scoring with 23.1 points per game and helped the Cougars advance to the Group A quarterfinals.

Also on the second team are Mike Byers of William Monroe, James Haskins of Prince Edward and Raymond Waddy of Lancaster.

Landon Bays, who scored 80 points during Twin Springs' three-game sweep of the state tournament, is Group A player of the year.

Bays, Jason Bishop of Rye Cove, Damon Graydon of Franklin, Aljamont Joyner of Sussex Central, and O.J. Williams of Castlewood are the All-Group A first team, chosen in balloting by sportswriters and broadcasters from throughout the state. All are seniors.

Jeff Huffman of King William is the coach of the year.

Bays, a 6-foot-3 forward, averaged 28 points, 11 rebounds, two blocks and 12 steals. In the state tournament, Bays had 21 points in Twin Springs' 61-60 quarterfinal victory over Covington; 32 points and 16 rebounds in the 69-64 overtime defeat of Prince Edward in the semifinals; and 27 points in the 60-59 title win over Franklin.
