TRUST to start training for volunteers Feb. 19

TRUST, the Roanoke Valley Trouble Center Inc., is interviewing people interested in becoming volunteer counselors.

Volunteers are needed to staff the 24-hour telephone hot line, providing counseling on suicide, relationships, drug and alcohol abuse, spouse and child abuse, and rape.

The next training session for volunteers will begin Feb. 19. Volunteers must be willing to work one five- or six-hour shift per week.

Radio organization elects 1993 officers

The Southwest Virginia Wireless Association has elected officers for 1993.

They are: Gordon Garrett, president; Clay Pardin, vice president; Wes Myers, secretary/treasurer; and Bill Svec, Groundwave editor.

The organization also announced an upcoming training class for new radio amateurs. Beginning Feb. 17, the class will be held from 7-9 p.m. each Wednesday through May at the American Red Cross chapter house, 352 Church Ave. S.W. The class if free, but there is a fee for the textbook.

The group also will hold testing sessions the second Friday of each month at the Red Cross.

Regular club meetings are held the first Monday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Science Museum of Western Virginia in Center in the Square.

Paralegal association elects 1993 officers

The Roanoke Valley Paralegal Association has announced its officers and board of directors for 1993.

Officers are: Suzy Shober Sauerwald of Johnson, Ayers & Matthews, president; Margie Bowman of Wooten & Hart, vice president; Rose Marie Dudley of the Conflict Resolution Center, secretary; and Casey Dugan of Glenn, Flippen, Feldman & Darby, treasurer.
