SALEM TACKLE PICKS MARSHALL

Josh Pugh, a two-time All-Group AA offensive tackle from Salem High School, has made an oral commitment to Division I-AA national football champion Marshall.

Pugh, 6 feet 3 and 240 pounds, picked the Thundering Herd over Appalachian State.

"He started three years for us on the offensive line, and not many do that," Spartans coach Willis White said. "He has such good feet that he could play guard or center, where you have to get out and block those linebackers. He'd be a fine center."

Pugh will be one of two former Salem players in the Marshall program, joining Travis Colquitt, the Thundering Herd punter this past season.

"I'd like to be 250 or 255 [pounds] by the time I get there," said Pugh, who starts for Salem in basketball. "I think basketball has helped a lot with my feet and flexibility, but it's been hard to maintain my weight during the season."

Tennessee has received an oral commitment from Tory Edge, a defensive back from Phoebus High School in Hampton who was rated one of the top 25 prospects in Virginia by the Roanoke Times & World-News.

Edge, whose second choice was Virginia Tech, was not scheduled to visit Tennessee until former Tech assistant Steve Marshall joined the Volunteers' staff. However, Marshall said he would not recruit any player with whom Tennessee was not involved before his arrival.
