\ Although Porsche no longer makes prototypes, it is considered an upset when one of the German-made cars doesn't win the Rolex 24-Hour race at Daytona. That's why it's no surprise that a couple of Porsches are among the favorites for this weekend's IMSA Camel GT season opener in Daytona Beach, Fla., beginning today at 3 p.m. with a field of 60 cars spread over five classes.

Porsche has won the race, which began in 1966, 18 times, including every year from 1977 through 1987. Since then, with Porsche not producing new prototypes since 1991, private teams have driven the venerable 962 model - introduced in 1984 - to overall wins in 1989 and 1991.

P.J. Jones set a qualifying record Thursday in winning the pole. He will team with Rocky Moran and Mark Dismore, the same trio that finished fourth a year ago.
