TILTING TRAIN A HIT WITH AMTRAK RIDERS

ABOARD THE X2000 TRAIN - Ordinary rail passengers rode in a test run Monday of a swift tilting train proposed for the Washington-Boston corridor.

Several passengers said the ride was smoother, quieter and had less vibration that the normal Metroliners, now Amtrak's fastest train.

A joint Swiss-Swedish company, A.B.B. Brown Boveri, hopes to sell 26 trains and electric locomotives to Amtrak, the U.S. passenger rail system, for between $400 million and $500 million.

Nearly 200 passengers rode the first regular test of the train, known as the X2000. It used the normal schedule of Amtrak's fast Washington-New York Metroliner train and hit speeds of 125 mph. - Associated Press
