13-YEAR-OLD GIRL REPORTS RAPE; SAYS MAN OFFERED HER $40

A man cooked a meal for a 13-year-old girl Sunday before dragging her to the floor and raping her, police said.

The girl told police the man offered to pay her $40 not to report the attack, which she said took place at an apartment on Gandy Drive Northwest.

The teen-ager said she had gone to the apartment about 5:45 p.m. with an older woman and her children. Soon, the older woman left to take her children home.

The man, about 35, cooked the girl's meal and began to fondle her as she ate. She told him to stop and he did until she finished her meal, she said.

He then began molesting her again and she told him to stop. He forced the crying girl to the floor and raped her.

Police said Monday they have the identity of the suspect, but no arrests had been made.

Sunday's reported rape is the second involving a teen-age girl in Roanoke within a week.

Thursday, another 13-year-old reported she was forced to perform oral sex and have sexual relations after being taken to a Melrose Avenue motel by three men.

In other police reports:

A man was accused of wielding a metal pipe and forcibly abducting his estranged wife from a Northwest Roanoke apartment shortly after noon Saturday. The woman told police that Joseph Louis Nemo, 51, had threatened to kill her. He faces an assault and battery charge.

Dwayne Deel, 23, of Dale Avenue Southeast faces a robbery charge after someone took money and food stamps from a cash register at a 9th Street Southeast convenience store.
