COVINGTON DROPS FLOYD

Chuck Morris broke a 46-46 tie at the 3:32 mark and Covington scored 11 of the last 16 points of the game to defeat Floyd County 57-48 in a non-district boys' game.

Covington (7-7), which trailed by 10 points in the first half, was led by Keeno Jones with 20 points and Van Wallace with 14. Morris finished with seven points.

Jason Light scored 32 points for Floyd County. \

Galax 64, Narrows 61: At Narrows, the Green Wave, eighth in the Mountain Empire District boys' standings, played tough and gave the league-leading Maroon Tide a scare, just missing a last-second 3-point attempt to tie that rimmed out.

Wilbert Campbell had 26 points to lead Galax, and Jeff Spells added 14.

For Narrows (5-10), Chad Fleeman had 15 points and Jeff White had 13, and Sean Harris hauled down 14 rebounds. \

Rocky Gap 52, Shawsville 44: At Shawsville, Eric Faulkner scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers, igniting the Eagles past the Shawnees in the first Mountain Empire district win for Rocky Gap this year.

Joe Cromer added 18 points for Rocky Gap (1-12 district).

Darrell Bibb led Shawsville (2-13 overall, 1-12 district) with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Keith Martin added 15 points. \

Cave Spring 75, Franklin County 52: At Cave Spring, Kim Stewart scored 17 points and Kelly Dierker added 15 and 10 rebounds to lead the Knights to a girls' Blue Ridge District victory over the Eagles.

Cave Spring (15-2, 7-0) also got 12 points from Cheryl Rhodes and 10 from Sallie Caldwell.

Franklin County (8-5, 3-5) was paced by Shannon Conley's 14 points. \
