EAGLES DROP SHAWSVILLE

SHAWSVILLE - Eric Faulkner scored 16 of his 22 points in the second half, including four 3-pointers, that ignited Rocky Gap to a 52-44 boys' basketball victory over Shawsville on Wednesday, the first Mountain Empire district win for the Eagles this year.

Joe Cromer added 18 points for Rocky Gap (1-12 district).

Darrell Bibb led Shawsville (2-13 overall, 1-12 district) with 18 points and 15 rebounds. Keith Martin added 15 points.

\ Tuesday's games

\ Northside 95, Rockbridge County 81: At Lexington, each of the starting Vikings scored in double-digits as the sixth-ranked Group AA team rolled past the Wildcats for a Blue Ridge District win.

Northside (14-2, 4-1) led 46-34 at halftime, but Rockbridge County cut the lead the six with six minutes to go. The Vikings sank several free throws in the final minutes to increase their lead.

Walt Derey led Northside with 27 points and 14 rebounds. Jimmy Porter scored 21 points, Greg Pickeral added 15, Kelly Dampeer had 13 and Nathan Hungate had 12.

Kerry Lewis led the Wildcats (8-8, 1-4) with 20 points, Marty Early scored 16, Mike Chambers added 15 and Martin Mayerchek had 13.

\ Radford 60, Marion 54: At Radford, Chris Hairston had 18 points and 11 rebounds, pacing the Bobcats past the Scarlet Hurricane in a non-district game. Garrett Jones added 17 points for Radford (6-9), which sealed the win by making 11 of 16 free throws compared with Marion's 4-for-9 shooting. Marion (7-9), which last led 37-36 early in the third quarter, was led by Brian Criggler and Daniel Hall, who each had 13 points. \

Gretna 73, Bassett 62: At Gretna, in a physical, foul-marred battle at the bottom of the Piedmont District, the Hawks won at home by outscoring the Bengals by 14 points in the last quarter - many on free throws. William Merritt's 21 points led Gretna (2-13, 2-11), and Lamont Hubbard added 15 points. Art Wade was the game's top scorer, with 23 points for Bassett (3-12, 3-10). \

Galax 64, Bland 46: At Bland, Jeff Spells scored 28 points as the Maroon Tide rolled over the Rockets for a Mountain Empire District win. Galax (10-3, 9-2) led by five at halftime but increased its lead by outscoring Bland 11-5 in the third quarter and 19-12 in the fourth quarter. Monty Matthews led the Rockets (9-6, 7-6) with 19. \

Tunstall 82, Patrick County 68: At Stuart, the Trojans used a big third quarter to outscore the Cougars 19-7 and romp to the Piedmont District victory. Tunstall (10-6, 8-5) had five double figure scorers, led by Hubert Adkins with 22. Patrick County (4-11, 2-11) was paced by Chris Reynolds with 20. \
