NAVY AIRMAN RECRUIT RUSSELL D. HUGGETT, son of Diann M. Huggett of Roanoke, is in the Persian Gulf aboard the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk, based in San Diego.

The Kitty Hawk has been part of Operation Southern Watch, enforcing a no-fly zone over southern Iraq.

Huggett, a 1991 graduate of Salem High School, also served recently off the coast of Somalia with the relief effort Operation Restore Hope.

\ AIRMAN STACY D. WHITLOCK, son of Lois A. Whitlock of 2429 Longview Ave., has graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Whitlock is a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 3RD CLASS JASON P. JOHNSON, son of Patsy G. and Henry P. Johnson Jr. of 949 Hartsook Blvd., recently reported for duty with Helicopter Combat Support Squadron Six, based at the Norfolk Naval Air Station.

Johnson is a 1988 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS BRANT K. EARLY, son of Rosa M. Early of 2522 10th St. N.W., recently reported for duty with the Department of Defense Headquarters Joint Task Force, Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, in Washington, D.C.

\ LANCE CPL. MICHAEL A. CATES, a 1991 graduate of Cave Spring High School, was promoted to his present rank and has reported for duty with the 2nd Marine Division, Camp Lejeune, N.C.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DEXTER R. MONTGOMERY, son of Kenneth A. and Malinda L. Muncy of 6663 Corntassel Lane, has completed recruit training at San Diego.

Montgomery is a 1992 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY SEAMAN RECRUIT DONALD R. HARDISON, son of McDonald W. Hardison and Edith K. Hardison, both of Roanoke, recently completed recruit training at Great Lakes, Ill.

Hardison is a 1992 graduate of William Byrd High School.

\ MARINE LANCE CPL. DAVID V. DAVIS, son of David V. and Jewell D. Davis of 1629 Westover Ave. S.W., recently reported for duty with the 3rd Force Service Support Group, Okinawa, Japan.

Davis is a 1990 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ MARINE CPL. WESLEY L. SCHAFFER, son of William H. and Cheryl A. Schaffer of 1722 Blair Road, recently participated in counternarcotic border operations in the Southwest United States with 2nd Reconnaissance Battalion, based at Camp Lejeune, N.C.

Schaffer is a 1988 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 2ND CLASS BRIAN P. SCHENKEL, son of Jerry W. Schenkel and Diane Turner, both of Roanoke, is in the Persian Gulf aboard the guided missile cruiser USS Worden, based in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii.

Schenkel's ship has been part of Operation Southern Watch, enforcing a no-fly zone over southern Iraq to protect the Shiite population there.

Schenkel is a 1987 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ NAVY PETTY OFFICER 1ST CLASS HARRY G. GAILEY of 2840 Colonial Ave. recently re-enlisted for six years while serving at Naval and Marine Corps Reserve Center in Roanoke.

Gailey is a 1973 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ AIRMAN KELLY B. PLOTT, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Plott of 3734 Tomley Drive, recently graduated from basic training at Lackland Air Force Base, Texas.

Plott is a 1991 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ SGT. CATHY D. GOOLSBY, daughter of Jean S. Grisso of 1006 Riverside Road, Salem, has re-enlisted in the Army for four years.

Goolsby, a unit supply specialist at Kent State University in Ohio, is a 1980 graduate of Cave Spring High School.

\ TECH. SGT. JERE D. JAMISON JR., son of Jere D. and Estelle M. Jamison of 2647 Grandin Road, has been decorated with the Air Force Commendation Medal, his second award.

Jamison, a systems repair technician at McClellan Air Force Base in Sacramento, Calif., is a 1974 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ ARMY RESERVE PVT. TAMMY S. REYNOLDS, daughter of Marvin P.L. and Edith R. Hash of 2506 Portland Ave. N.W., has completed basic training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C.

Reynolds is a 1977 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.

\ SENIOR AIRMAN MICHAEL J. SCALES, son of Melvin H. and Arlene S. Jones of 5214 Lancelot Lane, has been named airman of the year.

Scales, a fire protection specialist at Barksdale Air Force Base, Bossier City, La., is a 1989 graduate of Patrick Henry High School.
