WYTHE TEACHERS SEEK AT LEAST 8% PAY RAISE

Wythe County teachers asked the School Board on Wednesday for a pay increase in 1993-94 of 8 percent to 10 percent.

The Wythe County Education Association also is seeking enough funding for another personal leave day, duty-free lunch periods and a lower number of students per teacher.

In other business, the board tentatively approved a request from Wytheville to lease a former library building on Spiller Street behind Withers Park to the town.

The town wants to use it for Wythe Arts Council and recreation activities while the Wytheville Community Center is being renovated as a conference and health center. The project is being planned by the town and Wythe County Community Hospital.
