SWIMMING TWO HOKIES WIN RACES IN CHAMPIONSHIPS

Shawn Saathoff of Virginia Tech won the men's 1,650-yard freestyle and Angel Muncaster, also of Tech, won the women's 200-yard butterfly at the National Independent Championship Swimming and Diving Competition at the Mecklenburg County Aquatic Center on Saturday in Charlotte, N.C.

In Chapel Hill, N.C., the North Carolina men's and women's swimming and diving teams claimed the 1993 Atlantic Coast Conference championships that concluded Saturday. The Tar Heel women won the ACC championship for the third straight year by outpointing Virginia 838-664. The Tar Heel men, who won their fourth title in six years, upset Virginia 735-654.
